I'd like to submit a suggestion that MBE as as whole petition Waste Management to provide yard waste collection service in our area (perhaps we could partner with Indianola in this effort?). If we want our neighbors to take pride in their yards, then we should provide a way for them to dispose of the cuttings/clippings/other compostable waste that comes from doing yard work. Many people don't have trucks to haul this stuff away.
I inquired to WM last year about yard waste collection, but they only said that they don't service our area. I think a bigger voice is needed.

Great Idea! Perhaps the Miller Bay Estates Board can link up with the Indianola Board and get some results from Waste Management.
ReplyDeleteGood idea. I still don't understand how we can NOT have yard waste collection here. Every time the wind blows we've got sticks and branches to pick up.
ReplyDeleteI am in total agreement with all. It might save us from those who opt to burn their yard waste filling the air with smoke. I had that service across the Sound and it's a real help. When I called WM many months ago, they said it was up to the City of Poulsbo who contracts with them.
ReplyDeleteHas the board talked to anyone to follow up on this?
ReplyDeleteYes we have taken this for action and WM does not provide yard waste service for Kitsap County as of right now. It would cost the HOA approx, 6000.00 to have a yard waste container for 3 days.

Not worth it. Thanks for checking into it.
ReplyDeleteTracy, thanks for contacting WM about this! I just checked Kitsap WM's website, and they do provide individual yard waste service in Kitsap County. They say you can sign up if you live in a 'burn ban area'. Whatever that is. I still think we need to band together with Indianola and send a letter of petition to someone higher up in WM to let them know of our collective interest in this service. I'm not convinced that their CS people really know what's going on.
ReplyDeleteHere's the link on their site that says they do provide yard waste service:

Thank you for the information, I will check out the website
